Transmedia communication methods and strategies: Education for sustainability

(international cooperation project between UFMG/Brazil and Jönköping University/Sweeden)

The project focuses on theoretical, empirical, and methodological aspects of transmedia communication. Its aim is to understand the distribution processes of media content across multiple media platforms in a continuous flow enriched by connected audiences. Thus, the proposition is to study transmedia processes of communication in the scope of education and sustainability. The premise is that processes involved in the transmedia education sphere, especially in connection with notions of transmedia activism, can contribute to the development of actions promoting sustainability, cultural diversity, social responsibility and environment awareness. This research proposition follows a series of academic activities of international cooperation on transmedia studies already developed by the coordinator of this project, Professor Geane Carvalho Alzamora (Department of Social Communication/UFMG, Brazil) and Associate Professor Renira Rampazzo Gambarato (School of Education and Communication/Jönköping University, Sweden).

The communicational logic of transmedia dynamics: production and circulation of informational flows in journalism and education

This project is based on results achieved in previous researches on transmedia dynamics mediated by hashtags in online social network connections (Productivity Scholar/CNPq: 311914/2016; FAPEMIG 2018/PPM:002562-18). The results point to the emergence of a transmedia communicational logic in social context of investigation. Theoretical and methodological foundations from Peircean semiotics will be used to discuss the logical dimension of communication and compared to the available literature on transmedia and communication for the theoretical and methodological construction of the investigation. Based on this proposition, multiple case studies will be carried out in transmedia communication related to: a) transmedia journalism, with a focus on creative circulation / expansion of information in the context of disputing meanings around news, as is the case with fake news; b) transmedia education, with a focus on multiplatform production / distribution of transmedia narrative aimed at reframing teaching and learning in public schools. The empirical-conceptual variety of case studies to be investigated in their dimensions of production and circulation of information in online / offline connections, based on similar theoretical and methodological foundations, will allow to ascertain whether the transmedia dynamic operates as communicational logic in varied contexts of meaning.

Communicaton planning in transmedia education for public school in Portuguese speaking countries

This project develop communicational planning in transmedia education for public schools of Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP). The primary focus of our project is public schools located in low-income communities, usually marked by limited access to digital technologies, which requires thinking about transmedia dynamics in media settings that are not always conventional. In its research aspect, the project produces knowledge on the theme, carrying out collective investigations, of a theoretical-methodological nature, with a view to international cooperation, as well as hosting individual research at postdoctoral, doctoral, master's and scientific initiation levels. In terms of teaching, it offers courses at undergraduate and specialization levels. In its extension, it develops, executes and evaluates communication plans in transmedia education for public schools in Portuguese-speaking countries.
